I'm not saying the one's I've caught are Magnolia Crappie, just the description that fits what crappiepappy described in regards to "Blacknose". I do not ever recall any of these having eggs during the spawn. So does that make them a "Black Crappie" species?.............I'm assuming Yes.
If I Ain't Crappie Fishin', I'm Thinkin' About It............
What you probably caught was a BLACK NOSED, BLACK CRAPPIE. NOT a Triploid Crappie (aka Magnolia Crappie)...The blacknose is just that. He's a genetic mutant BLACK CRappie with a black streak. The Magnolia Crappie was only released in Lake Charlie Capps. They wouldn't just release these fish without proper testing, etc. Hence Lake Charlie Capps, which recently was drained so no more Magnolia Crappie for sometime!!!! No eggs probably meant the fish was a MALE by the way.
