Maj, you don't HAVE TO have line counter reels. I pulled cranks all last summer, maybe 15-20 times and I use the tried and true method. 5. 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. That's how I get my depth, pull out 5 feet of line at a time. Works just as good as any line counter. Heck, I asked PStone how much line he let out and he said he let it out until the fish started biting. On the line, I use the 20 lb high vis Braid, to many stumps out there and at 5 bucks a pop for a bandit, it COULD get expensive. The reason for the high vis line is when I'm making a turn, I can see where my lines are so I don't get them crossed. So it's NOT for seeing a bite like jiggin, you'll know when you get a bite , well most times. I have looked back and seen a fish skiing across the top of the water without seeing my rod bending.
I built those myself it is just some steel gas pipe with two 1" angle brackets welded to each end. It has a couple of T-bolts that hold it to the gunnral of the boat. My rail on my boat has a t-slot for accesories (Xpress boat) the rod holders are driftmasters from wal-mart and the brackets are pipe hanger clamps that are threaded 3/8-16. The nice thing about it is you can take it on and off the boat with just two bolts.

Keep your line tight !
Makes it awesome to be able to just take it off the boat and get it out of the way

"Thanks for all your replies and help. Hasen't this seemed to have been a pleasant thread....no name calling.....no poo flinging....just good information. I wonder who is missing."
Hey now bub, call your shots.
I didn't see anything to disagree with above, but no discussion of the baits to use.
If you want to start out on the cheap and build from there, here's the 4 colors of Bandit 300s I'd start with
1) Black or Black Sparkle
2) Mistake
3) Awesome Pink
4) Red - Texas Craw is a good one.
Those are the 4 basic hughes everthing else is just a variation of the above. Then you'll want to have some more colors....lots more colors.....and dont' forget about the 200s when they're up shallow....then you've got Wally Marshals when they want a snack, Norman DLNs for the big fish bite and don't forget about swimbaits if you find some mean fish..............well, you see where this leads right?
Here's a link I pilfered from Jeepster - prolly the cheapest non sale Price I've seen. Bandit Series 300 Crankbait
Only thing from above I'll add is that I prefer no snap above the bait and just use a quick figure 8 knot instead. I've had trouble with the baits not running true with additional hardward. Also 10# mono works best for me (may not on Ross Barnett) and I like the hi-vis lines. The higher and visier the better.
My best speed seems to be 1.7 or 1.8 mph.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
Better add Mad Cow your list of basic colors. I didn't see anything on the list that covered white.

Taco Salad, Root Beer, Pearl white and Khaki are some really good colors. Then add in a red snap swivel OR the DonDon special addition and you're in business

The Mistake has a white belly..........who was it that said about the top being for the fisherman and the bottom for the fish?..........can't remember now.
OK, what the hey, it's his money.......yeah, get the Madcow, Sparkle Ghost, Citrus Shad, Taco Salad, Copper Tiger, Root Beer, Sour Apple, etc etc etc.
And be sure to get at least 4 of each color and 12 of the good ones....don't want to be out there and them only hitting one color and not have a spare, and a back up spare and an emergency spare and a back up emergency spare.
