Question Davis Lake, Nat'l Forrest - near Houlka, MS?

Anybody fish Davis Lake, off the Trace down at Houlka? I used to love
to crappie fish there, back before they drained and re-worked it -
are there any crappie in it now?

    Jeff

The clerk at our local bait shop in New Albany said several locals were having success catching crappie at Davis Lake last week. I have never tried that lake but like you said I have heard it was a good crappie lake before they re-did it a couple years back. I might give a try and let you know. I like fishing these water shed lakes this time of year especially with winter drawdown at our big three.

Thanks for the input Spawner, I just might get back down there sometime.
Used to love to camp there, cause it was just about guaranteed you could
catch some crappie to cook. Most of them were only 10" fish, but occasionally
you'd get a big one. Caught one that went 2.5 out of there, back in about
'96. Got into a pretty good debate with the forrestry people when they told
me they weren't going to restock crappie in it! Heck, that's what 75 percent
or more of the people came there for! Told 'em to take their bass, coppernose bream, and catfish and well, put 'em somewhere besides in the
lake. Guess some of the locals took it upon themselves - Good for them!
