Who'd ever expect to fish from shore for crappies on December 4th in Minnesota? We did today and got enough for dinner tonight.
The bite wasn't super hot but it was enough to keep us interested. Gulp 1" minnows was the secret potion for hits on small jigs and jigging spoons. All blacks today even though the area we fished has some whites that wander thru there occasionally. I'll take the backs over whites any day though. The water was wide open and it was warm enough to actually get a bit of sunburn. Everything came together this morning to make it a great time on the river.

I've made three trips since the original report and each trip has gotten poorer for catching than the trip before. The fish have a chronological schedule to keep too and much of their food [young of the year shad] has made a shift to the winter areas the food needs to stay in. The crappies have migrated along with those shad now so I feel certain the season on the docks this fall is over. Come April the crappies will be back in amongst the pilings again and so will I.
