Try Bass Lake, just north of Cohasset....panfish,walleye,bass, pike.
Heading to grand rapids for a few days in late august, before heading up to big winnie For the rest of the week. We are staying in a hotel in grand rapids for 3 days and wanted to fish some lakes around there before spending a whole week on Winnie. Walleye crappie pike jumbo perch are our targets. I know pokegama is a main one. But heard it can be very tough for walleye especially late summer. Is this true? Any info will help. Leech lake isn't out,of the question either. But,would like to keep the drive distance within an hour. Thanks guys

We're up in that neck of the woods at Many Point Scout Camp in two weeks, then heading straight from there to Shell Lake for the week. We've had some alright crappie and walleye fishing there in the past, but I'm thinking my son and I will poke around for some better quality elsewhere if Shell is so-so.
U guys know anything about channel catfish in the area? I heard it was good fishing in the river there this year.
Just happened to come back to this site to after a hiatus, this is the area i fish. Ive found the most comprehensive fishing reports are on lakestatefishing.com, some of mine are even under the grand rapids section. Personally i fish north of grand rapids for walleye, but it is not uncommon to catch numerous 27" plus walleye on pokegama in a day. i cant wait for june when i get my next vacation to hit it again.
