Try Isle Royale on Lake Superior.Best times are spring,and summer.They close all ferry's to the island in the fall.
You could also go hike Jay Cooke State Park,just south of Duluth.Miles upon miles of hiking,and backpacking excitement.
Another place is Pattison State Park,located 45 minutes south of Superior Wisconsin.It has the largest waterfall in the midwest.Big and Little Manitou Falls,with lots of hiking trails nearby.
Or....between Ashland WI,and Superior is Madeline Island.There are plenty of backpacking trips around the Madeline Islands worth checking out...

Those are some nice eyes. Are there guides up there that will take you out to catch crappie in Canada or do they mainly focus on other speices?

The Nester Falls area of Canada is VERY popular for crappies.Fish up to 17 inches are caught up there.Spring,and fall is the best times.
If I was gonna head to Canada,I'd fish for those monster pike,and walleye!Some of those waters seem almost untapped,and don't see lures very often.There are other lakes closer for slabs.
Try Rainy River,or Crane Lake.Huge slabs to be taken in those waters!:D
