Two evenings ago my fishing partner was only able to score a single crappie, I took a few dinks jigging, but last evening it was only on the third location that we hit anything worth mentioning. That spot has been more or less dependable for crappies all spring, but not last evening, we only managed a single one, maybe 11 inches. We had the big eaters in the house though: four walleyes from 2-4 pounds and one 21.5" largemouth. One dink bluegill and one creek chub (definitely a creek chub) rounded out the evening there. All those fish were on crappie offerings fished in what are normally crappie holding areas. On ultralight we had some exciting sport, but not what we were after.

In this one spot we are finding the larger crappies mixed in with walleyes of very good size themselves. They seem to be coming in together just after dark these days. Last evening we were fishing current breaks which in this one place normally means lots of crappies. Last evening not. The current is erratic there pretty heavily dependant on heavy recent rainfall. Not so much as a dink, and no sunnies in their normal places either. Just one of each, actually a pretty sorry excuse for crappie fishing.
