I have been wanting to crappie fish for several weeks but my fishing buddies all had Striper tailwater fishing fever and I couldn’t well turn them down, but today finally arrived when I could get away and fish and scout for crappie.

over the past few weeks I did make crappie hotels and 4 times we launched and put them in spots that we hope will produce. The fish that we caught today came from one of those spots. They were a school of 12-12.5” black crappie and did they ever fight hard for their size.

They were caught on a drop off in about 20 feet of water on 1/16 oz jigs with Lights Out Slab Slayers. Flow rate was 35K and surface temp reached 57 degrees. My friend Biofisher landed. 4 lb 9 oz Largemouth bass on a crappie jig, 4 lb test in 2 feet of water. It took a while to wear this fish down. It was released and I got grief from my wife for letting it go. It is her favorite fish to eat. Grin.
