Question Visit to middle TN, where to fish? Edgar Evans State Park? Others, Help??

    Hi all,

I'm wanting to plan a crappie fishing vacation where my brother and his wife (from northeast Arkansas) meet up with us (from Virginia) somewhere around middle TN. Maybe around middle April to end of April? or would another time period be better?

I see an Edgar Evans State Park lake & creeks and wondered about the crappie fishing there? Any good? Any other suggestions in the basic middle TN area that also has cabins to rent and good crappie fishing??

We don't want to steal your fish but would like to have a nice vacation and eat a few good crappie dinners. None of us are at all familiar with TN and only chose that area because it's about 1/2 way for both of us. We could meet up anywhere even north or south of middle TN (Kentucky, Alabama, etc.) Just trying to keep both of our travels down to about 6 to 7 hours.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    ~Sheila

Dale Hollow lake has a good crappie population and is also known as the smallmouth factory. Center hill lake is in that same neighborhood. South of there, around Manchester and Winchester are Tims Ford, Normandy Lake, and Woods Res. As a club we fish those regularly and do well. You will be arriving during the tail end of the spawn and finding fish shouldn't be a problem. Stay in touch as your trip draws closer and I'm sure you will be steered in the right direction. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Lynn and I have stayed at Tim's ford marina the last couple of years at Easter time. We have had our ups and downs but that is to be expected. The cabins are nice and clean and the docks are nest to the cabins. We always have fun there and normally catch some very nice small mouth at that time of year.

Check out tims fords marina web site.

Good food and good people with plenty to do when not fishing. We live in the area so we don't get out and see the attractions but it is very nice to spend 4 days without having to trailer a boat. Very reasonable to stay there. Prices are posted on the web site.

The state park is a little more expensive and does not have a place to leave your boat in the water but is a good option.

Edgar Evans is a nice state park and they have great cabins. We do not get that many crappie reports from that area as those lakes are deep and clear. More smallmouth habitat than anything. There are locations on Watts Bar lake and Chicamauga lake that have cabins on the water and would be better choices if you wanted to catch a lot of fish. Chicaumauga is very hot right now and would be my choice to explore. Contact Kingfish on here and I think that he can steer you in the right direction on that lake.

What bigjoeed said. Paris Landing (KY lake) has some really nice and reasonably priced cabins.
