It's hard to believe someone would stand in bright lights in the middle of the night and attempt to steal something. The guy must be stupid or on something. It's too bad a person has to keep things locked up and under lights to keep it from getting stolen. That's the world we live in I guess.

I found this Sunforce Solar Powered Alarm System and Light, Model# 86319 | Security Alarms | Northern Tool + Equipment at Northern Tools and would work other than the occasional animal that might trigger it.

That could get old every time a possum or a dog come by hearing that go off. The problem of a thief is a problem though I guess that needs something to address it. Especially if you been hit before, he is still around and will most likely keep on somewhere anyway till he gets caught. I feel for you bud, and commend you for doing the right thing there and not doing something that could ruin the rest of your life. You would some how come out on the short end of the stick if you had done anything like shot him etc. Glad you didn't lose anything but a lock this time.

Yep thats why I didn't go out and shoot him I figure I would end up the bad guy. I have taken everything and I mean everything out of my boat and the compartments are unlocked. I may not can keep him away but at least there is nothing for him to take and maybe this way he won't break any more of my locks. Just makes it a pain in the ass for me to have to load everything back in the boat when I want to fish. But I tell you what if he comes back I will go out with my trusty baseball bat and beat him within an inch of his life and my gun for back up. I am so tired of this, I won't shoot him unless he comes out with a weapon but I will make him regret it. The cops that responded told me I could have taken a bat out and beat the hell out of him and it would be justified.

On of my biggest fears is that I will come home and catch someone in or around my house or wake up in the night and catch someone messing with my stuff.........I will give someone anything that they need but dont come here and try to take it........I hate a thief. It would be hard to just let someone ramble through my stuff without retaliation but you did the right thing......

I went to Gilliam's Marine today to get a new lock to replace the one that the thief broke off and they told me about an alarm system they are starting to sell. It is only $139 and all you have to do is touch the boat and it will go off, it doesn't have to be bumped or jarred. I am not sure how the sensor works but I think it will work for what I need. They are going to order some for the February boat show in Huntsville and save me one, I forgot the name of the company old age I guess lol.

For those who keep there boat outside, this may be a good item to have. You may check with your insurance carrier to see if you get a discount. I wish I had steering cable insurance...lol

I commend you on your patience with this. I do not think it would have been so around here. Good luck with catching this guy. Nothing makes madder than a theif.
