Time for work today.
Aunt Gretchen figured I’d be hungry, when she heard the shot.
Cooked me an omelette, bacon, toast.
When i got inside she asked why I only shot one, when there were 4.
Had to laugh, at that.
Time to get home, skin and let it cool for the afternoon.
Probably spent the evening cutting it up.

Rarely do I post hunting photos. It has just never been something I have done. Last night I was out in the shop and I had all these stacked up and thought it was a good picture.
This has been 11 years of work and dedication managing just under 130 acres (between mine and my neighbors) in order to have consistant quality mature animals. Rarely do you see a doe in late October without seeing 3 bucks trailing her. It wasn't always the case. All of these deer are 4.5 years of age or older. Dad gets the nod with the oldest deer. All of these deer weighed over 175 pounds hanging weight. Which means they all averaged over 200 plus pounds on the hoof. Abby's was the only deer not taken with a bow.
This deer weighed 184 and will score just under 130 inches.
Abby's buck was older than both of the deer I harvested and had an outside spread measuring just over 16 inches.
I post these photos not to boast but to show how fortunate I am to have land that I am able to manage the way that I want in order to see an outcome that I desire. I understand however that this isn't always the case everywhere.

How do you go about cleaning the skull?
I do it a bit more redneck style. I cut off the ears, and bury it in the back yard. Dig it up about Labor Day weekend, hose it off, set it in the sun for a week or two, then hang in garage, or where ever.
Fortunate you are, for sure.

Boil, power wash, scrape, boil, power wash, scrape, boil, power wash, scrape.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing

I’ll stick to my red neck method.
You have enough woods, place them in a mesh bag and hoist over a limb about 25 foot off the ground.
Or maybe a chunk of chain link fence.
I’d bet by spring anyone down wind might hate you, but as it warms, they would clean up fast.
I don’t have the patience to follow your method.
Works just as well

The best way is to clean it good then boil with 1 cup of oxi clean detergent (not liquid), for 10 minutes or until it is gray in color. The stuff falls right off. Power washing is best. You then break the ear canal on both sides, reach in and twist out the brain.
Boil the head in 40% peroxide and water for 10 minutes and it is white as can be. I'll text you a link to probably the best online video I've found. He uses the same method.
I'll keep working this season for my deer.
So many nice racks there Rich, no pun intended. It takes dedication for this sport.
It was a nice weekend at the cottage, terrible for deer. Seen none until the day we headed home, and only while driving home.

I've heard that hunting in Missaukee county, Wexford, Manistee, Mason, and Lake counties was horrible.
My opinion: lake of crops due to a wet/late spring and summer coupled with the minimum APR debacle that those counties are currently in. I've hunted every county I listed and it wasn't easy then.
My sister and brother in law saw 7 deer between Oct 1st and November 20th. They hunt daily in multiple counties. Many will blame lack of the ability to bait, but the truth is that the majority of deer congregated around the most food possible. Lack of agriculture played a huge part.
