I have a metal yardstick screwed to the floor. No tape measure. You may as well pick up two more when you buy Erin's, one for me and one for Rich.

Steve: I'm getting you a tape measure for your boat.
OE: I have one right there mounted on the floor.
Steve: That one's not big enough for the fish you catch...........
OE, with a look of of confusion: Was that a compliment or an insult?
    Steve: BOTH

Without a tape measure, we can always claim ignorance!

I carry a bump board in my boat now but, when Salmon fishing, as long as it was over 10 inches, no one really cared. Kind of hard to confuse a 36 inch fish with one that "might" be under the legal limit!

I put marks on a fishing rod once but then realized it was an idiot move as it would be hard to hold the fish up to the rod that was stuffed in a downrigger rod holder and bent nearly in half.

Steve, if you do get Aaron a measuring device (and Jerry as well), I prefer the ones that have retractable seamstress tape in them. It more closely follows the contour of the fish and you can get a few extra inches in some cases!

I've seen a few that were stuck to the inside lid of a livewell. I always liked that idea as you could hold a fish up, measure it, and drop it in the livewell. So, I went and purchased one. Then I got home and realized that my livewell (at the time) had carpet on the underside of it. So then I thought, "hey, I'll get a plastic or metal one and affix it to the inner lid"... then I determined that I couldn't find short enough screws to hold it in place and, to top it off, the livewell lid only had 14 inches of surface area thus making it useless for walleyes.

My boat now has a foam type of insert under the lid but, I have a bump board. In one of my old boats, I put a mark on the back of the splash rail. It was at 15 1/8 inches to ensure legality.

I actually got a really nice one from a DNR conservation officer at a show one time. It is round and orange, pulls out and stops and has the seamstress tape like mentioned above. When you want to retract it, you hit the button. Unfortunately, it never made it in to my boat. I have a habbit of picking things up and saying "I need to put that in the boat". It finds it way in to my truck and then I forget to put it in the boat when I take the cover off at the dock. Two years later, I find it someplace in my truck. I found 5 brand new crank baits just a couple of weeks ago. I cannot remember when I added them to the truck to put in my boat at some point in time... but I did. Or the crank bait fairy visited me sometime in the night. The funny thing is that I must have purchased the same baits again because my box now has 4 or 5 of them. Oh well... I think I might go digging through my truck to find that tape measure!!!!

I have one already I secured it to the floor on the port side, and used clear caulk to hold it in place, should I ever want to remove it.

The perception form Steve is that its not large enough for the fish I catch.

Which I am sure confused him, because he actually caught a big fish while fishing on Lake Mi with me for once.

That barrier has been broken, and he can no longer say I put him on small fish, well at least not all of the time.......

I couldn't take it, sitting at work, I had to run out to my truck and see if I could locate the above mentioned tape measure. Surprising, I not only found the tape measure, I also found a spare fishing spool for an old Diawa Gold spinning reel, some bulbs to a trailer I no longer own, 3 more crank baits, and a checkbook to an account I have not had in years! I guess I actually need to clean my truck more than once while I own it.

This tape actually runs out to 60 inches.

That looks like nothing more then a dress makers tape measure. My mother in law might have a couple.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Steve just needs a long sleeve shirt with a tape measure on the arms for him then across the arms and back or chest while fishing with me.

That way when he describes the fish he caught, we can all tell if he is telling a FISH STORY.

Those were some amazing fish. Still planning on making a trip to see if I can catch one. But who knows when that will happen.
Got a meter stick attached to the wall of the boat. Don't use too often though.

    Jimmy,

Don’t you have to catch a fish first?
