I have seen these. I was concerned that it would not meet the Daytime requirement however I see that they have included a distress flag to cover this. I usually purchase day/night flares to cover me for both instances. Many people do not know about the daytime requirement. I also have aireal flares as well.

My only concern with these is batteries. They are designed to run on C Alkaline. Like anything else, you have to be on top of your equipment. Flares are tried and true and usually light. On the flips side, I never understood why you are required to carry a device (in your hand) that lights with fire... While holding it inside of a boat with either A. a gas tank close by or B. 32 gallons of fuel directly beneath your feet.

So, for that reason, I am seriously considering this light. I will also be purchasing more strobes for my jackets for each person on board. I already attach whistles. Strobes just make sense.

Thanks for the reminder on the Light Aaron. Still leary on the batteries (especially C) but I think the benefits far outweight the dangers of hanging on to a flare.

Another thought, is that WE can test batteries, We should be able to test this light ANY time we please. Flares are a one time, test, and you hope you never need them, and they expire. Flares expire, and Batteries go bad, so its a wash I guess, but the Pro is you can test the light any time.

Another thought is that my "Digital Aged Kids" know how to turn something on and off, (said Light) and might not be as well versed in a actual flare operation.

I am still not sold on it, but want to check one out next time I am a the store. I wont need one until I hit a major lake.

This link had way more technical info.

100% agree in all counts. Check it out and let me know what you think.

    I like the testing part.

If I was going to give somebody a starting point.... South of LEMP in Lake Erie (North of Fermi).

Start along the bank in about 12 feet of water and troll out towards deeper water. You will hit a series of rock pile humps. Water will drop to about 16 foot and then come up to 12. The front side and the back side of those humps is were you "might" just find those big females walleye's getting ready to spawn.

Our favorite bait for this area: Standard color Size 9 flicker minnow (Blue Smelt).

I just noticed something. That flicker minnow picture I showed was taken directly from Berkley's website. Funny thing is that the treble hook in that picture is NOT what is sold with the baits. The hooks that are sold with the baits are complete garbage. I would much rather have the hook shown!
