I used to get geeked up about catching the big girls. I always throw them back though. Don't much like the taste of them. Then, one evening with my dad, I caught more of them than I cared to remember. We threw back 9 fish over 10 lbs with the biggest being 14.75lbs. It was in the pouring rain when nobody was really fishing. In fact, we threw back so many big fish, we didn't even bring our limit home. We had a slot limit simply because we don't like to eat those big fish! Never was one to put one on the wall either.

Again, fun to catch though. I'll be chasing them soon on Erie as I have pretty much sworn off the Detroit river this year.
    Yeah,

    My hopes got kid squashed.

Daughter has an entry for US History @ Grand Valley State on Saturday. She has a shot at Nationals US History something or other......

Going to go to that, drop her off, wife & I will hit the Hunting & Fishing Expo, then back for the awards and placing announcement @ about 2.

If I go anywhere, it’s going to be a local lake for Crappie.

If I chase any Walleye, it might be a Sunday Day trip to The Sworn off DR.

But that’s allot of driving, and would cut into my Sunday nap time.........

I might chase Crappie & Nap on Sunday. It’s a WIN/WIN for me that way.......

If you hit the DR Sunday, take your perch rods and some shiner minnows and hit the cross dyke for perch. Throw a small perch on a treble under a bigger bobber and you may catch the pike of a lifetime. Or let me know if you need a guide.

If you hadn’t said who you were fishing with earlier, I would have guessed you went with OE.

T-Rex jig... Nice!!! Funny how you recognize stuff like that. And to think he actually bit the bait.

I've played lazy. No desire to jig. I'm procrastinating on changing the lower unit oil and 4 stroke oil. Darn it, I just remembered that I need to change oil in the kicker too.

I have 500ft of line to strip of 8 line counter reels and splice in new. I have two new reels to spool. Someone needs to vacuum the boat. I need to get new flares (old ones expired).
I did manage to get all of my harnesses checked, bad hooks changed out, nicked line replaced, old blades removed and replace. I also checked the (not going to give you the number) crank bait "boxes". Hooks replaced on several junk hook flicker minnows, replacments made on several DDHJ 12's, sharpness checked on all of them. All boards have new OR16 and OR19 clips. All old or 19's have had their pads replaced, 1/2 of my old OR 16's have been replaced (been collecting them for a few years now). I have about 10 left that have busted or cut pins. I will replace the pads, cut the pins, and install new metel pins!

I have one rod to finish (been working on it for 2 years) a new steelhead rod to start, another jigging rod to build... and no desire to do any of them. I "should" replace the line on 4 jigging rods. Even though I don't plan on doing any of it. I do however utilize them for perch fishing AND, as soon as the water shapes up, I WILL be in Muskegon fishing perch. I'll let everyone know when the fishing gets good. I have a buddy that lives there and fishes it daily and knows all the guys that fish it. When they are in, I am there!

    Rich,

    I need new flares also.

Have you seen the new Coast Guard approved SOS Distress Light?

Supposedly they can and are designed to replace traditional flares.
