Jerry it's too bad you weren't able to get that hook. I had one on my other boat, I thought it was pretty good for the price.
Keep looking, there will be some good deals coming up.

The thing is, I own 1/2 of the boat. Capt. Sinky owns the other 1/2 and I bought the electronics that are on it now, the next upgrade is on him. I should have got with him as soon as I saw that deal but waited till yesterday.

Does anyone know what lake maps, if any, come pre loaded in a unit like the Hook. I'm not stuck with Lowrance, Hummingbird and Garmin would work, again if I find the right deal.If I don't find a deal, I'm fine with whats on the boat now.

As for the S10 Mechanics, I did play mechanic, I'm good, and can perform general maintenance, but I can not convert a S10 into a U-Boat.
I heard about the Muskegon fiasco on the radio on my way home last night. So did the Kid in Alma. I get a text from him shortly after hearing it on the radio....

Headed up to Alma again to watch hem wrestle Davenport University. Davenport is a Division II School, so should be interesting, as Alma College is a Division III.
This weekend they have the Alma Open, its an open invitation, anyone can go......... Wrestlers from D1, Think U of M, MSU, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, etc, all the was down to Crappie.com members Jerry & Myself could participate.

Going to go to that, and watch as well.

The hook units are very very basic in regards to mapping. They have very little detail in most maps, only include approx 3000 lake maps, and the contours are not very accurate (if they exist at all). They do not have high resolution shading or anything like that. If you are purchasing a unit to utilize the mapping feature, this is NOT a good unit to purchase UNLESS you are purchasing a mapping card to go with it.

The standard HDS units come loaded with "Insight Pro" or "Insight HD". These are much more robust maps, more to choose from in terms of lakes, high resolution shading, and so on.

There IS the ability to purchase external mapping software cards for the Hook units (like Navionics or Insight). I'm not sure it gives the same details or features as the HDS units. Kevin and I played with Navionics for a weekend and we were NOT impressed. The detail of the map did NOT compare to the standard insight mapping loaded on our HDS units. In fact, it missed a ton of key features in the area we were fishing.

If it was me, I would look for someone looking to sell a used HDS 7 Gen 2 (touch or non touch), or HDS 8 Gen 2 model. You might be able to find a newer HDS 7 Gen 2 or Gen 3 touch used as well. I can't help out when it comes to Hummingbirds as I simply cannot figure them out. You have to scroll through to much crap to get to what you want to find.

I know someone that might be selling a HDS 12 gen 3,just not sure how much he's asking, I know it will come with some good way points on Gun,Burt,Ohio and saginaw

Does that mean that person didn't buy a new boat at the Novi show? Or he bought an HDS 16 to go with said new boat?
