I personally would get in touch with a local tackle shop/bait shop up there when you arrive to get the best and most current reports. I can't give you any good info myself, but be safe traveling and good luck.

Well, I am only four weeks away from heading up to stay at a campground in Christmas Michigan. Which of these three lakes do you guys recommend for the best fishing opportunities the first week of July? Au Train, Perch or Cleveland Cliffs Basin? I would love to target crappies but at this point anything tugging on the line would be Ok with me. Walleye, perch, northern and even smallmouth.

I fished au train lake two years ago with my wife, only fished one afternoon.
caught lots of perch , but nothing over 8-9 inches, also caught a couple of smaller gills.
we only fished it for maybe 4 hours , so that is all I can tell you.
we did see 5 or 6 other boats fishing for what that is worth.
good luck wherever you end up!

I'm partial to the Basin but only because I have fished it before.
I have one spot in particular that I used to murder the walleyes. I'll have to look it up and get back to you on the exact details of the location.
I have OCD "Obsessive Crappie Disorder"
Thanks to all of you for any information you can give. Wicklunderh you can PM me if you find the spot on the map. It would be much appreciated. Believe me I can't wait for the day I retire so I can move out of Illinois and up to Michigan. It is an amazing state and I love to visit.
