Default Furnace Lake near Christmas Michigan

Anybody know if there are crappie in this lake? I am staying at a new campground on the lake the first week of July and would like to do a little fishing for some crappie. If no crappie, is there anything else in the lake worth chasing or should I drive to other local lakes?

Red, I'm not familiar with Furnace lake so I can't give you any first hand info. I found a site that seemed to list fish species in the lake. They listed bass, walleye, crappie among a few others. I looked the lake up on the DNR website and the map of the lake showed it with a SIX foot max depth??? Something semis wrong with that tho.

Perhaps somebody with knowledge will chime in.

I am familiar with the area but not that lake either. Hopefully Steve has something on this one.

Damn, a lake I haven't fished!!! Road trip anyone?

Rich, I'm like you. I drive past a flooded farm field and wonder if I can launch my boat and if it holds any fish.

Thanks guys. I am willing to hook the boat up and attack other lakes nearby but I just need to know of some that would be worth a try. Also, do I need any special permits for my 14 ft Jon boat from Illinois?

I've never heard of it so I looked it up on google earth.....the earth image shows several houses along the shore but only a couple docks. Would absence of docks suggest time of year (docks haven't been put in yet) or absence of need for boats cause there is no fish?
I noticed there is a White Pine Lodge place of business right close by, I'd suggest searching their phone number, and call them to see what they can tell you about it.

We must all think alike, yesterday when pulling out of my current jobsite driveway, I looked at their neighbors flooded yard and said to Tim "You think theres any fish in there?......Tim is just as bad, he says "Lets grab the poles and give it a try"

Red, you won't need any permits, however if you launch at a DNR launch there is a small fee.

Thanks guys, it appears this Lake is also known as Carr lake per the nice young lady I spoke to at White Pine Lodge. However, she wasn't able to provide any fishing information on the fish. I guess I will give it a try and then move on to other areas if this one doesn't produce. Anyone know if I can purchase minnows anywhere close or do I need to bring the minnow trap?

Red there aren't any regular members/posters from that area, so I would suggest you contact your lady at the lodge to get some local info on baits shops to call. They should be able to tell you more about local fishing and your minnow supply.
