    Default Spring Camp

So, dad got roped in to putting on the spring camp this year. We all know what that means!

Because we didn't get any direct input at the fall camp due to the low volume of people that were able to make it, I figured I would pose the question now.

We need to put together the BEST overall dates that will work for people.

Keep in mind that the weekend of May 27th-28th is Memorial Day weekend (the 29th is Memorial Day).

We will NOT be able to attend anything on the following weekend of June 3rd and 4th (fishing tournament). Obviously that leaves several other dates. Keep in mind that the further we go in to June, the more likely we will have issues with camping and availability.

Being as we have done the camp at Hardy for the last couple of years, dad wants to try and find a different place, spread out the travel, and give others an opportunity to not have to travel as far.

What we need to do first is establish a good hard date that will work well for the majority. Please provide your date feedback and we will move on from there.

Being as our coffers are low (nonexistent) we will NOT be doing a charity fund raising event this year. We will have several different things setup to help raise money to once again get our treasury fund back to where it needs to be. More on this later.

I can tell you that we are looking at the middle of the state. Houghton Lake is a possibility as well as Lake Missaukee in Lake City. This is currently NOT open for discussion. Just the best popular date.

It seems the next weekend (June 10th) would be the most logical so we don't get too far into June. It's also about (if not the exact)the same time we had fish camp last spring.

I'm obviously open to anything that works for all.

Lets see the 10th of June could be a problem.....we have a wedding, two T-ball games, a pheasant hunt, tractor-pull, hotel room at the casino, Non-fishing family is coming to town, and no matter where camp is its too far to travel there. Well screw all those lame excuses..........THE 10TH OF JUNE WORKS FOR US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fishingcouple: I'm still laughing!!! I didn't know you still played T-ball!

MUSPIKE: Gary, like with several other states, Michigan holds a crappie camp a couple of times each year. It is a chance for everyone to get together, share some great food, some laughs, plenty of stories, and get a chance to get to know the faces that you converse with online. You are a newcomer for about 10 minutes. Then you are just like everyone else. For each camp, someone volunteers (or is voluntold) to be the planner for the next event. That person finds a body of water with a campground close by. We set a date, set the location, and then everyone makes their reservations. We usually meet sometime on a friday (for those that can) and have a get together in the evening (called Liars club). We usually take care of any club business at that time.

On Saturday, we have a very family friendly fun fishing tournament. The rules are usually set in place by the person that hosted the event. Sometimes it is the biggest crappie, or the biggest 5 crappies for each boat that wins. There could be prizes for the smallest crappie, biggest non target fish, and so on. We all do our best to help everybody catch fish. It isn't a secret spot, run out there to try and win type of thing. In fact, many events, we don't catch many fish at all. But we have a great time. We have a time to be off the water, a weigh in, and then a big get together including a pot luck style luncheon, fish fry, and so on. Many of the people you meet at these events will become life long friends. We all share similar goals and ideals and that is what truly brings everyone together. Like minded individuals. Many of whom I speak with on a daily or weekly basis.

The very basis of this site is to put like minded individuals together to share their love for something. Many of our threads start out as one thing and quickly take a turn. No one gets angry when someone posts something else on their thread. The other reason for this site is that it allows people to share information without the worry of being persucuted or made to feel stupid. You will quickly learn that many of the guys in the Michigan group (MICDC) will go out of their way to help another member. Whether it be with fishing or their chosen profession.

I've fished a ton of water in Michigan but, with the friends I have made, I know that within a few hours, I could contact someone from this site, ask some information about a specific area, and get great feedback. Not just with crappie fishing but with all forms of fishing. As I said, we are all outdoorsmen and women and we all share a love for the outdoors.

That is the very ethos of what camp is all about. Putting us all together at one time!!! Hope that answered the question!

Muspike: As Rich said you are a newcomer for about 10 minutes, which directly relates to the amount of time each newcomer is required to "ride the initiation goat", with or without a saddle.

Spartannation still needs to do this, so maybe the 2 of you can ride double......

Double is fine as long as he doesn't squeeze me too tight.
