Thumbs up 2012 Fall SlabFest review

The MICDC fall SlabFest was a great time with some good people and lots of fine dining. Attendance topped out at 16. A BIG thanks to all that came out and helped make it a super weekend. Mother nature treated us well this time out with just a bit of rain on Friday night, but we had a good fire and still enjoyed a good time at "liars club".

Cakelady and I went down Wednesday evening to get in some preparation and prefishing. We decided to fish Matteson lake about 15 miles west of Coldwater on Thursday. It was a beautiful day that got hot fast when the sun cleared the horizon. We found fish at the south end of the lake in 12-15 FOW suspended 6-8' down just off the break lines. We boated and release 8 fish. We came back to camp to find Fishingcouple had arrived. They graciously treated us to a fine steak dinner at their camp that evening.

Friday morn we fished the Randall chain of lakes where Waffle Farm CG is located. The folks at Waffle Farm have a great facility and I stopped by on the way out to extend our thanks for hosting our event. We didn't fare as well Friday morn, but boated lots of little smallies. Ready2fish and Skillett007 showed up Friday mid day with Mgrand8 and his family rolling in later in the afternoon. Mmaveal and his family also stopped by. Friday night "liars club" we enjoyed some of Cakelady's black bean salsa and I did up some "pigs of the sea" (bacon wrapped jalepeno shrimp grilled over coals and topped w/ my "secret" bbq sauces)...Yummmm.

Saturday morning we kicked off the tournament at sunrise with 6 boats in the water. The weather was great too. We fished until around 1 pm when we gathered back at camp for weigh in and the fish fry. Ready2 fish took honors with the most weight, and Hermin took big fish. Hermin was also awarded the "MICDC travelling trophy" which Wicklundrh made for us. Great job on the trophy Rich!

We ate well and enjoyed some games Saturday evening and had a nice table of prizes to give away. A Huge thanks to Slab for the shirts, to MidSouth Tackle, to Handcrappie for the cool hats, and to everyone who helped make it happen!

I am currently sipping an enery drink out of an official "Billbob Tested, Billbob approved" cozie.

I wanted to extend a thank you to Slab for the T-shirts, and Handcrappie for the hats. Us bald guys need all the help we can get. To anyone who has not experienced a slab fest.... You need to go. It is a great time with alot of like minded people that all enjoy the same past time!

I had a great time getting to know everyone (putting faces to names) and I look forward to the next time we all get together. Winter Fest on the ice sounds like a plan!
