Well having had some time to consider the fear of poisoning, and how that might correlate with a fish’s hunger, I have concluded that a scary creature might elicit a defensive bite.

Grizzly hacklings are extremely popular with fly tiers, and with chicken farmers. I don’t think they would be so if fish avoided them. I shall continue to persevere with the weirdo look.

I like the idea of dark on top, light on bottom. Minnows are that way. I have also been trying to stick with my 1:6 ratios. While these appear to be too fat, once swimming they will skinny right up.

My fly boxes are getting plumped right up, too.
Maybe they will bite this one……

I tried the shrink tubing thing too, and hated it. I use mosquito hemostats now, and grab the eye of the jig before heating and dipping. They protect the eye from buildup and are easily cleaned during the process.

We will be off of an adventure today. Oh Boy. We will be tubing down the Ichetuknee River. Crystal clear cold water flowing from multiple spring heads. We will be lazily floating down river on our tubes. Past the massive cypress trees that have been hanging out along the banks of the river for hundreds and hundreds of years. Alligators swimming by. Water Moccasins curled up on over hanging branches. Fish and craw fish and snails and river otters and all manner of other creatures that come to these waters.

The heat indices are predicted to be 111 degrees today. Great day to go for a jog, or do some heavy yard work. Me……I will be floating down river with a chilled butt. You should take a break from your Jeep’s issues and take a ride down this fabulous river. A must see for any Floridian. I mean if you enjoy the water, this river has some of the best water there is. They require you to use a tube and stay in it the whole time. In Winter they allow kayaks and canoes and such. Seriously, you have to visit this State Park at some point.

I have been filling up my jig boxes. Here is my rubber legs collection.

I also have a fine collection of plastic bait jigs. Everything is 1/16th ounce. I figure I need a couple more of these Gamakatzu jig boxes. I will need more room as I continue to explore possibilities with feathers and fur.

I saw where the FWC does fishing camps with kids and so I will look into donating some of my lures to them. A kid could play with some of my stuff if he doesn’t want to fish. LOL

Once I get my mind set on a few good designs, I might focus on just making up those, and forget about taking six boxes of lures out for a days fishing. I mean I get confused and then I have to pee. I still haven’t dived into my crank bait collection, and probably should be trolling those around a lot more often than I do. Too many options.

Might go fishing at O’Dark Hundred tomorrow. Hmmmmmmm…….

I think they look pretty good.

The trip down river went well. The place was a zoo. I mean it was packed end to end with screaming children. We managed to find soft spots in the stream of people so we could focus on. nature a little bit. Seems the kids think they are at Disney.

We saw lots of turtles. They climb up on dead trees lying in the water to sun themselves and worm up after swimming in that cold water. They seem horrified that all these people are swimming past, bothering them. Some have algae growing on their shell, some ar smooth and shiny. There are also these very small snails that they are trying to protect.

I saw people exit their tubes and climb on the rocks. Signs everywhere telling them not to. Yet, there they were tromping about as if the rules have never been designed to guide them.

As with any crowd you get a handful of jerks. Here they came on their paddle boards and their yaks busting through the tubers as if we were in their way. Rude people. We are drifting downstream and they just have to go the other way, or faster than everyone else. The place was packed, too. After having a few of these fine people ram us, I decided that fair was fair. Here came one fast, headed right for us. Couldn’t go around us mind you. Paddling away straight at my wife. WHOOPS……… sorry about that. Them paddle boards are hard to stay upright on when they come out of the water like that.

The pointy ends of their boats and their boards actually hurt when they strike you in the head. Ask me how I know. I decided I needed to be a defensive tuber, and my wife didn’t care for my approach. She thought it fine if they collide with our faces. It would be different if they weren’t being jerks. Isn’t as funny ramming into people’s heads when one of them suddenly defends themself. I wasn’t opening up a can of whoop butt, but don’t like being a chump neither. They shouldn’t allow those idiots on the river when the place is packed with tubers.

I considered taking the boat out today.

Nope I have to clean and organize garage.

You certainly have been busy, just read this thread. I noticed you use reptile rubber on a lot of your jigs but didn't see one particular color that's my favorite. Camo(Green pumpkin/Lime & Orange Print). Just a suggestion for you to check it out. Couple of questions #1 With all those single lure color combinations in your boxes how do you decide which one to tie on? When I first started tying I did the same thing but when I found the right one that they liked I would lose it and didn't have another and would have to choose something close and it wouldn't work as well. Three became my favorite number then. Could lose two and third was used to copy and make more. #2 Where are you getting those roller swivels with the open end or are you opening them yourself?
