I just recently replaced the steering cable on my 16' Venture Kricket. When you start taking the assembly apart save your self a few head aches by unbolting every thing 1st, even loosen the bolts where motor bolts to the transom. I took a sawzall to the steering rod and saved a bunch of time, be very careful with this bad mofo as you can cut up a bunch of stuff that don't need cut. Threading the cable was the easy part, the cable is stiff enough that it just slides right on thru the boat. The hard part was making the connection to the motor, depending on your motors offset you should be able to tilt the motor in the direction easiest to slide the steering rod thru the tube and bolt it up. I then tightened all the motor bolts back up, being very careful not to over tighten and crush te transom. Moving to the steering collum i 1st put a big loop or bend in the cable to shorten it up so i could pull it to the point where i wanted it to be (its very hard to push the cable once its bolted to the motor). This next part is kinds hard to do. Get your motor straight and your steering wheel level bolt the cable to the steering shaft stab the 1st bolt where ever you can get it in, you will fight it every step of the way. Put your 2nd blot in directly across from the 1st, again you will fight and cuss these 2 bolts if ypur steering wheel and motor stayed in possition tighten the bolts up completely if the wheel and motor moved (which they probabally did) realign and tighten. Now since most parts are made over seas and quality not being top priority the last 2 bolts may not want to line up break out the DeWalt and the correct sized drill and obround the holes in the cable where it bolts to the steering shaft. Slide the bolts in tighten and your done. This whole process took me bout 45 minutes! I hope that this saves you some time.
