I have a 2004 Johnson 115HP 4 stroke - it is Johnson white so some mildew really shows up. The first few years I never noticed any mildew, but I think it has started to grow after I started applying some wax to restore the new engine shine. Perhaps the wax is allowing it to grow? I don't put much wax on it, I use a spray wax and am not puttin git on heavy.
Anyway, I see some marine engine mildew wash at the store and I think the label is identifying the active ingredient as basic bleach. So was wondering if others use anything to rinse off a little surface mildew?

Simple Green is the best in my opinion...it is a VERY tough degreaser and is biodegradable...I use it in my bilige clean outs also.
