Get a used boat first, unless you just have money. You will get very wet in that boat on rough water. The little 25 Merc. is not enough motor for it. If you are dead set on the boat atleast put the biggest engine that the hull is rated for. Also, if you plan to do alot of crappie fishing, I prefer to sit lower in the boat. JMOA

    Default 1st Boat

If you are going to buy a used boat if at all possible atake someone that knows something about boats.
My first one was a 18' WellCraft with a 115 HP Merc., all I did was spend money on it and it was suppose to be "WATER READY" and it was if all you did was want to sink.
Have a good day and may you spend it fishing!!

I would get something bigger my first boat was small it was ok for a few months but the more I fished out of it the more I wanted a bigger one. If you look around you can get a real nice used boat for that price prolly less. If you find one at a dealer thats only a few years old they can finance it for longer than youll want to keep the boat.

Bought a used pro 17 tracker with a 60 hp about 4 years ago. My only complaint is it's not wide enough and hard to fish in the wind. No problem
with the boat. Have had it in the shop a couple of times. 1st time power pack
and now carbs. Couldn't afford a new boat and this is my 1st one.

If that boat is in your budget and you like , BUY IT. You can always trade up at a later date. When you buy used you asr subject to someone else problem. You want to fish from the boat not work on it. You got my vote.

In these times you can prob. buy a good comparable rig for 50-60% of what this one will cost new. Used boats and trailers don't give too much problems; you can spots defects in them relatively easily. Spend the money and have the motor checked out by a boat mechanic or do it yourself (compression check, water in the lower unit, cylinder scoring, etc.). Working on a boat isn't a problem, as long as you do it at home---not on the lake!

slimeyslab is right a used boat is normally the best way to go. the only good thing bout buying that boat new is the 5 year warranty on the motor but as many have said that motor is not enough power for that boat unless you are just gonna be putting around the lake. I know those mercs and a 5 yr warranty is a good thing to have on that motor.
Also the good thing bout most fishermen is they are proud of their boats so fishermen's boats are most of the time in good shape and so when shopping for a used fishing boat it is not too often that you would find a lemon. But in any case make sure you check any used boat out thoroughly. IMO I would get a bigger boat with a bigger motor (Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor grunt) for the same money, just go shopping
Nothing like a day on the lake fishing for some crappie and drinking some cold ones.
    GO TIGERS!!!
