    Default Tilt/Trim Relays

Took the boat out the other day to make sure everything was running good on her. Everything was fine till I went to take the boat out of the water. Went to trim the motor down and nothing happened. Hit the switch to raise the the trim and it worked just fine. Had a spare set of relays in the boat and installed them, this seemed to correct the problem. The tilt up and down was good to go. I chalked it up as a relay going bad.

Heading out for a fishing trip this Thursday and was loading the boat when I double checked the trim again. Today for some reason the trim was being very sporadic. It would raise and lower a few times and then would quit completely. I could pull the relays out and switch them and could get the motor to lower, but not to raise. The other day, I could get it to raise but not lower. I'm guessing I've got some kind of short, but didn't know if anyone else has experienced this same problem to give me some guidance. Need to get this fixed quick, don't want this to hamper my 1st trip on the water.

Are you sure the spare relays are good? It sounds like you have the plug-in type, if so spray the sockets with an electric contact cleaner and check all the wiring for a loose or corroded connection. Hopefully thats all the problem is.

Your were right on the money IBNFSHN, the spare relays I used to replace my bad ones were actually used also. One of them was bad. I went and bought to new 30 amp relays, plugged them in and now they are working fine. Appreciate the help.
