So with the advice from here last year I have replaced the reeds on an 89 70hp. Now I have this issue that doesn’t happen a lot but enough to ask this question. Every now and then the motor we’ll start shaking pretty bad from the time I start it until I shut it off. Then usually when I restart it the motor runs smoothly. Any ideas on what’s causing this. The only thing I changed was the thin metal reeds, I did sand the assembly so they made solid contact with no gaps.

I’ve have two boat shops close by, one will not work on motors that old and the other didn’t have an answer for me, or really seem to care about it.

Try bass boat central at bbcboards.net in the evinrude johnson forum. Post model & serial number & seahorse, championman or some of the other fellows will help you out.
