Default Lower unit in or out of water

My boat is setting on a lift and is completely out of the water including the motor. With this cold weather heading my way, should I leave the motor like it is or trim it down so the lower unit is in the water?
    thanks!

Not sure how much clearance you have but you do not want any water sitting in the lower unit. I fish a lot in the winter, each time I pull out the motor is trimmed all the way down to allow the water to drain while I batten down for travel, then trim up. You do not want the lower unit to freeze and bust.

If you can't trim down without being in the water then the best thing to do would be cover the lower unit prop and all of the lower unit with something to keep the water out and trim down as far as possible.

May be able to flush some antifreeze into the system if you can't get the water out of the foot. Biodegradable antifreeze

My boat sits outside in the parking lot year around, and my motor can't be trimmed all the way down .... so during the Winter months I strap double Walmart bags around the prop with a small bungie cord. That's worked so far (fingers crossed !!).
