    Default Boat shops

I need the idle adjusted on my 50hp mercury. I called a local mechanic "Boat Doc. Asked him how much he'd charge to adjust it. He said $125.00 an hour. He's a good mechanic and stands by his work. $125.00 seems high to me. What do you think?

It is high but if the guy knows his stuff it is worth it. That is the rate that the guy my dad and I use. Good boat mechanics are few and far between. Not many around here interested in the trade anymore.

Quality work is not cheap, cheap work is most of the time not a quality job.
That said. This guy if he knows his stuff and set the idle in an hour. Some guy that does not may take multiple hours and multiple trips to his shop.

That's not a unreasonable hourly cost especially if the mechanic has good references. Standing by ones work is sometimes hard to find anymore without argument and it sounds like you are gonna deal with one person direct that I have found to be somewhat comforting rather than dropping it off somewhere and not knowing who will be performing the work. Just my opinion but I'm not opening my wallet either.

The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweet smell of the cheap price is forgotten.
