I was trying to diagnose a brake issue on my tandem axle trailer this weekend, and i spun the wheel without the brakes on it, and it sounds like i have sand in the tire? Why would you put sand inside of your tire before mounting it? It's like that on both sides of my trailer... not sure what to think about it. Thoughts???
Sounds like something for balance. They used to put stuff called Equal to balance my work truck tires. Worked pretty well.

Ahhh, i see. I couldn't find anything using Google so, that helps. I thought it was super odd... Thanks all!
Yep, Because of the bulk of the tires, as well as materials some rims are made of, it's getting to be quite common for tire mounting shops to put the balancing material in side the tire. I.e. plastic beads, sand like material in a thin plastic baggie. theory being as the wheel turns faster the material is slung to the spot its needed to balance the tire.

Yep, probably the little glass beads that are supposed to self-balance a tire. I'm not convinced that they actually work that well. Maybe on 40" Boggers, but certainly not on a trailer tire.
