My wife got a new-to-us ride awhile back, Lord knows she deserved it. Been driving a 98 model with a bazillion miles since I’ve known her.
She’d been insisting on me pulling the boat with it, practically throwing the keys at me.

Now I have been a heavy duty truck guy most of my life. If it didn’t have 8 lug wheels, I wasn’t interested. And driven diesel forever. My usual truck, 1 ton Dodge/Cummins, we’ve been partners 20 years. My thinking had served me well, great economy, brakes and clutches last forever, pulls handles stops anything. When I’d used a half ton to launch my boat while camping a few times, was thoroughly unimpressed. Tongue weight alone would near slap bumper to the ground.

But let me tell you - her ride is a half ton, silverado 4x4 with the direct injection 5.3, 2019 model.
I was blown away with how it handled my barge I am rurnt. Ruined for the non hillbillies.
Yes, it did knock bottom out of the mileage, dash was showing 11.8 for the last 50 miles after pulling out of Pickwick, my Cummins will hold 16 or better pulling boat. But as bad as that bothers me, I realize 87 gas is a lot cheaper than diesel, so probably a wash. Oh, and comfortable - all bells and whistles I used to scoff at.
The ONE hill leaving JP Coleman park, it’s for real. My old Cummins pulls it in 4th of the 6 speed, just flexing like it’s saying is that all you got?
I thought the gas 1/2 was gonna choke on it. When I first hit it, yep.
Thought I was gonna have to get out and push. But toed into it a bit, it dropped a gear, only flashed up a bit over 3,000 rpm and then went on up it fine.

Gosh I almost wish I hadn’t done that, now I’m wanting to trade my beloved Goat off I am rurnt. Ruined for the non hillbillies.
