    Could you weld or braze a 3 inch long 5/16 inch bolt to top of bolt for a handle? that way you would not need the socket wrench.

    If there is a convenient location on the transom I would permanently plug that and add something like this, stainless ones similar as well

    Thanks, yes, I have spares. It's really a tutorial for people with vintage boats who need an easy solution.

    If you are set on that solution I would run a nut(s) on the bolt and then no worries about cutting the rubber.
