    Default Trailer questions...aluminum or steel

I am looking at a new SeaArk boat 20' with 200 hp outboard. The options for trailers are steel painted or aluminum. The aluminum is a little more pricey.
Never owned a Aluminum trailer, I will not be using the boat in saltwater either.

Any recommendations as to if Aluminum is better than the standard steel painted trailer

It will never rust, never need repainted. Two plusses in my book

Alum will last your lifetime, be lighter to pull, and never rust or chip. Downside is it costs much more.

I have only had Galvanized steel boat trailers. My current Galvanized trailer is 25 years old and previous owner used it in Salt water. Frame is not rusted but I had to replace the Axle and springs when I got it 4 years ago.. My trailer got bent when a tree fell on it 2 months ago, I'm going to try to fix it..I recently priced new trailers, Aluminum was $1000 more than Galvanized. For my use I would prefer a Galvanized trailer.. Aluminum would be a second choice, painted steel would work but rust could be an issue in the future.

One bad thing about aluminum, especially tandems, the tires can cause them to float when retrieving.

    Personally I prefer steel.

If not keeping the boat for a long period of time I would go steel if looking at years and years keeping it then aluminum or galvanized.

I went aluminum for the stated no chip, no rust lighter .....but fish a lot of river systems with current, have to be careful or the darn thing floats down stream. Mine is a tubular type by Diamond City. The guide on broke, but now welded and SS bolts added no more issues, as long as I do not back in too far.
