Mercury 110 red stripe
Hey guys, I have this older model mercury 110 which is I believe like a 9.8 hp. It has a small red stripe on the cowling in the middle. On the carburetor where the float spring meets the needle that goes up and down, there is a small hole made into the housing. Whenever I prime the bulb I will get fuel squirting out of that small hole in the housing. The motor will run as long as you’re spraying starting fluid into the carburetor, but other than that it will not run. I put a rebuild kitInto this carburetor, and it still won’t run. I am at a loss of what to do now?

I got it where it will run for about 30 seconds, then it just sputters a couple times and it quits. It acts like it runs out of gas. How do you know if the fuel pump is pumping?

Take the output line loose and try to start it. Gas should come out in squirts not steady. But the best way is to put a pressure gauge on it using 2 pieces of hose and a T fitting. Does the new needle look like the old one? Needle should move up and down smoothly. And did it use to run?

No I don’t have a manual for it. It ran about 5 years ago, but has just been sitting up since then. I’m going to check the fuel pump and see how it does

I believe this is my culprit. I can turn the motor over, but I get no fuel out of the outgoing line. Is there a way to take it apart and fix it, or will I need to replace it? I have looked up the part but can’t find it. Any help with a new part is appreciated.

Check with a mower shop. Take the pump in with you. I believe that is the same pump I just bought to go on a Honda motor on a tiller. I bought an Oregon brand pump for about $20. I can't say 100% for sure the pumps are the same but they sure do look exactly the same. I will post a picture of the pump I bought with a part number in a few minutes.
