Is it possible to hook a monitor to this motor? I would think there would be many reasons for loss of power.

My 225 Mercury Opti Max would not get up on plane. Spark plugs. You mentioned spark plug wires, have you changed the plugs. This happened to me on two separate occasions over the years.
