    Good advice there.
Things usually work out better when done methodically. Long ago I remember Dad resolved an issue methodically when some jerk out of the blue started cussing and swearing at Dad for no reason at the boat ramp. Dad leaned over to me and my Brother and said "Yall stay right here, I'll be back in a minute after I kick that jerk's butt and throw Him in the river". He followed that reasoning in the correct order, and everything worked out quite well.

Yes, I tried taking one plug out at a time. It spun over fine with the rope and by hand, with more resistance of course, but the rope pulled all the way out.
Disconnecting the wiring to the kill/power switch I could spin it over but it did not start. The rope did not stop short like it had been.
This is a pull start only motor, no electric start. I apologize for not being as clear as folks might want and I know you are trying to help. I do appreciate it.

So there is nothing stopping the starter. It's probably that maladjusted NSS that only engages at WOT that was causing that issue. Your problem is likely ignition related. Pull the plug wires one at a time and check them for firing. Put a screwdriver into the boot (touching the connector on end of wire and lay the screwdriver so that the metal part of it is touching (or very close to) a bare spot of the block. Pull the starter and you should see arching between the screwdriver and the block. If you touch the screwdriver metal part while doing this you will really know for sure. (You will get shocked)

If you don't get spark on either plug, and you have an ohm meter, check the black/yellow wire coming from the kill switch and see if there is continuity to ground.

So I got it back from the shop. Good news/bad news. Good news is the motor itself is still solid. Bad news is the coil pack is shot which is likely why it died. Worse news is the gearbox also is shot. They said it is going to be way more expensive to repair than it is worth. They suggested buying another motor and taking two to make one.

So I guess I will try and find a used one or take a shot on one of those Chinese Hangkai motors that are really inexpensive.

Glad that you know what’s up now. My advice to you, after going through a cheap motor in the meantime fix, is to bite the bullet and find another name brand quality motor. I have your motor with electric start and like it. Shopping parts would be my choice but it isn’t good going against a mechanic either. Hope you can find some love in all this mess Dave.

Yeah I think I am going to do just that. Save a couple grand and get a new one with electric start that I don't have to worry about. I sasked the guys at the shop and they said Suzuki is the best one. They said even though their main supplier is Yamaha, they both said they would go Suzuki.

Not sure how far you are from west KY though. Probably 4 tanks or so of gas round trip
