Typically when a DC motor doesn't want to work unless you thump on it or spin it manually the brushes are to blame. Either sticky or just worn out.
My back up trolling motor is a transom mount endura max variable speed motor that I am having trouble with. It doesn't always want to spin and I have to give it a push to get it started sometimes. The guide pin or whatever it's called under the prop is good. Sounds like I might need to do take the bottom apart and look at the brushes or something? Ideas?

Just watched a you tube video on taking it apart. Cleaned up a bunch of dirt, put it back together, and now it seems to be spinning everytime I turn it on.

Glad you got it fixed, wish You Tube was available in my earlier years I would'nt have scrapped so many trolling motors & electronics.
