Props now have rubber bushings that are supposed to reduce the risk of damage. My goal is to avoid hitting anything.

Figure 250 rpm per inch. So the 11 inch should be spot on for the 5500-6000 range you need to be running in. I’d stick with the 3 blade if it was me. Either the 13 or 14 but I’d lean towards the 13 there again if it was mine. I have 3 different 13x 11in props for my 50 Yamaha 4stroke one is a performance. On 2 standards I get 57-5800 and performance I get 6000-6200 depending on trim.

Cray, why do you suggest a 3 blade over 4? Most toons I've helped power we have put 4 blades on for more lift and better steering at slower speeds. Helps with steering at idle speeds too. Is there something good I'm missing with the 3 blade?

I don’t have a real good reason other than I just prefer the 3 for it’s ability to rev quicker and sustain higher rpm easier. The 4 will give a little bit better steering control but on a pontoon the extra lift it’s going to exhibit in my opinion puts a lot of extra strain on lower unit. If it’s a big foot motor that wouldn’t be a problem, on small lower unit could eventually lead to problems. It’s your call. These are just my opinions.

All opinions are helpful on forums, gives the OP more info to make a decision with their hard earned money.

This motor is a "bigfoot", they changed the name to "CT" (command thrust) with the 4 stroke series. It uses the 75/90/115 prop and is geared for torque not speed. Bigger prop for better turning, less risk of blowouts on turns, and more torque for getting heavy boats up on the water. The PERFECT motor for a pontoon.

I agree with you that you would want a bit of an easier turning prop with a pontoon and a standard size lower end, but almost all of them these days come with a CT type motor because you cant turn the dang things with a little prop. The other thing is if he sticks with an alum prop, it will probably flex before it does any real damage to the lower unit on take-off. I would not put a 4 blade SS prop on a standard lower unit 60hp with a pontoon, thats for sure.

The only thing I could see not using 4 is in reverse as the more blades less control going backwards.
