Could be. Also does it have a peddle? If so, check for something binding on the peddle.
I have an Ulterra that the spot lock will work then cut off after a few minutes. Minn Kota says check batteries which I have done. Batteries are good. I do have a Lowrance Down Scan, Side Scan transducer attached to my trolling motor and I am wondering if the trolling motor is being binded up when it turns by the wiring from the transducer. I have one of the precision sonars transducer wire stand offs and their coiled cover for the cables. I can get a little more slack in the wires but not much. I am thinking the trolling motor kicks out when it gets resistance from the coiled transducer cable. Could this be the case?

I had a Terrova that would do the same thing. Also would shut down and disengage when running on the heading sensor between 2 points. Turned out the voltage on the batteries batteries would draw down during an extended run and it would disengage.

Bad batteries or a bound TM would both cause a low-voltage condition. I would connect a voltmeter to the TM and monitor during use. Watch voltage and see if it drops when the SL disengages. I'm with DSJ - probably a bad battery that you are not seeing when not under load. If the batteries were good, you would either have a ripped transducer wire, or you would already have enough slack in the wire. Good luck, and let us know what you find.
I have a corn field crappie mount on my terrova, and when the cable binds up under the head it disengages spot lock...

My Terrova will drop out of spotlight at times. I think it may be the GPS signal is week in the area I'm fishing. It seems to happen when I'm in one area of the lake.
Your transducer cables is causing it when they wrap around the shaft and it gets in a slight bind the resistance is the problem! I have the same issue !
Slabprowler, what do you think I need to do to correct the problem? Extend the cables? My transducer cables come up through the coiled wire to the top of my control head, then back down the coiled wire of the actual trolling motor.
