    Default 50 hp mercury carbs

Has anyone bought new carbs for a 1982 mercury 50 hp? I have both originals there pouring gas, been thinking about buying new instead of rebuilding.

I found some on EBAY they are expensive. How much is a rebuild kit? I guess I would compare costs and then decide. I am mechanically Inclined so I would probably rebuild if it was me.

Carbs pouring gas is likely float stuck in down position.

Good luck finding 1982 carbs. Ebay would probably be a start. Not sure you're going to find any new old stock. Used or rebuilt likely.

Should be a pretty simple carb to rebuild

I strongly advise you get the Mercury Manual, specifically to your motor, either printed or on CD. I went with the CD copied from the original manual on fleabay for around $20.
You will need the correct part numbers, and lots of helpful info in the manual. If your motor is like my '92 model, only 2 of the carbs have idle circuits, 2 don't.
Once fixed, I highly recommend a quality fuel stabilizer like "Mercury Quickaire" in every tankful (Walmart), and run that motor to a good warmup at least once every month or two, especially thru the winter. It's good to twist up the old 2 strokes at least once every outing, after warming up. Keeps 'em running nice and perky.
I also recommend a quality fuel filter/water separator, the factory "Strainer" is woefully inadequate, IMHO. Best wishes!

I have the manual for it, I bought it from eBay a few years back. Mine only has two carburetors.
I can rebuild the carbs myself I was just wondering if anyone had found some replacements that weren’t ungodly high.

Check out boats.net. I have ordered several parts from them for my Mercury, and received genuine Quicksilver parts, unless otherwise specified.
Online the lookup requires your model number and info. They are located in Georgia, by the way, near Athens I believe. Good luck!
