Propped correctly the 150hp would do a great job on the 20' boat..
I have access to a good deal on a 20' haul - 3 of 6 cylinders have low compression. I thinking if I can get it priced right, I'd buy it, clean it up and put my 150 on it until I can rebuild the 225 that is one it. I'm not trying to go 60 mph on the water, most of my spots are a mile or less from the ramp. Will this be enough to cruise say 40 mph? My Mercury is a good strong running engine. I'm kicking around the idea, but if I'm going to put too much strain on it. I'll keep it on the 19' boat it's on now. My haul is showing it's age and this one would be a good upgrade.

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
What kind of 20' boat are we talking about?
Like above, properly propped, the 150 hp should move it along OK, depending on configuration and such.
Notwithstanding, my late Dad's favorite motto was "Just put a 12 horse Wizard on it, Son"...

I don't know why I'm worried, I had a 150 on my 19.8' Charger and it got around pretty good. Now to work out the deal!
