don't seem to have the 'stuff' to winch the boat the last 10 inches on the trailer. what's the best remedy? 2 speed winch, electric winch or silicone spray on bunks?--shuorc

Electric sure would be nice. I would want it locked down so it couldn't be removed while I was parked at the launch

Silicone spray...and hold on when you launch.

I had that problem with another boat I had.....I bought a gear drive winch....easy to wind and the gear drive made it pull more. It worked great.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

2 speed, simple one time fix and no worries about electrical connections.

Wouldn't backing a couple of feet further into the water make it easier?
I don't even hook my winch until I get into the parking lot. I use a automatic latch. I just drive on the trailer and the latch catches my boat and I drive into the parking lot and hook the winch.
Check out Doroto catches. I'll never have a trailer without one. I will be 72 next month and fish alone.

I think you mean Drotto Automatic Boat Latch.

Yeah, got one on my trailer, and even bought the lock for it. Now I just drive the boat up on the trailer, trim the motor & power it up that last foot or so & CLICK, it's attached. Partner drives the truck on up into the parking lot loading section & I disengage the Drotto, hook up the winch strap and winch it tight, unload the boat & off to home we go.

I haven't yet tried it solo, but even then it wouldn't be any harder to trailer the boat than before I had it. But, if I was fishing alone most all the time, I'd have one of those step/handrail thingy's, too .... just to make it easier to get out of the boat and into the bed of the truck.

Thanks for the spelling correction, Pappy. I let down my tailgate before I back in and back until the back floats. I step in the bed and off the tailgate onto the boat and release the catch. I drive back on and let it latch, step on the tailgate and off on the ground and pull out. I can hook my winch without releasing the catch. Only way to go fishing alone.

Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed, 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Adjustable Handle - 3,200 lbs. Best decision I ever made. I couldn't winch my 1754 War Eagle 3 inches without nearly busting a gut, now I can winch it any amount I need.
