My new boat dealer expressly said to winch the boat the last few feet. Told me not to power load the boat. I have one launch site that if you do not leave more trailer out of the water, the nose is under the roller. What then ? Well that means leaving more trailer put of the water and cranking hard for a few feet. Another launch the back end of the boat is floating around after I have cranked it up tight. A high angle ramp requires cranking.

I did see something interesting at that ramp. A trailer that has two large PVC pipes with ends sealed and bolted to the trailer frame. I think they provide lift and float the trailer wheels up off the bottom. This to alter the steep angle and make cranking easier. Looked easy enough to do.
Maybe they will bite this one……

Realized yesterday newer trailer has 12" tires and older one has 15" tires so had to back trailer in deeper and cover the fenders do not leave the tops out of the water at that point am able to winch all the way up. Thanks for all the pointers now it's time to go fishing (after the fog clears). --shu

Might help get a trailer back onto the ramp if it were to fall off at low water

Yeah, got one on my trailer, and even bought the lock for it. Now I just drive the boat up on the trailer, trim the motor & power it up that last foot or so & CLICK, it's attached. Partner drives the truck on up into the parking lot loading section & I disengage the Drotto, hook up the winch strap and winch it tight, unload the boat & off to home we go.

I haven't yet tried it solo, but even then it wouldn't be any harder to trailer the boat than before I had it. But, if I was fishing alone most all the time, I'd have one of those step/handrail thingy's, too .... just to make it easier to get out of the boat and into the bed of the truck.
That’s what my boat needs,,,ain’t no pulling a 3,000 lb monster regardless of how strong that winch is,,,drive it up and “ click “

I have a Fulton 2 speed winch on my trailer, in low it takes very little effort to pull my fiberglass boat onto the trailer.
