I’m like Jack, this sounds more like a coil issue than a fuel issue. If it sits for a while and cools down does it then crank better? If it does I’d investigate coil or stator.

Once it sits a while it cranks better. I'm leaning towards the coil/stator.

A spark tester would likely tell the tale when the notor was hot. Should see a weak or absent spark

I'd do a FREE compression check before you go replacing coil/stator. You're showing symptoms of a bad cylinder.

By chance have you checked your water pump the hard cranking after shutting down leans toward an over heated engine.

That's my thoughts also, if compression is checked it would eliminate this worst case scenario.

I replaced the impeller not too long ago. I'm by no means a mechanic. Could I have done something wrong that would have caused this problem?

You could have put it in backwards and it wouldn't pump if that is the case. Are you getting water out the tell-tell hole?

Before I back away from trying to help in this post I'll ask one question.

Do you have a compression gauge or access to one?
