    At 50 to 1 mix you would have used around 13 ounces of oil. Depending on the size of the tank it may be hard to see that amount. 2.6 ounces to the gallon.

    With my Mercury 115 2 stroke, my oil tank holds 1.4 gallon of oil, mixes oil at 50 to 1 at idle, 80 to 1 at wide open throttle, a full tank of oil will last 5 hours at wide open throttle, the low oil buzzer comes on when oil is down to 1 quart of oil, and that allows for 50 minutes of run time at wide open throttle.
    According to the manual, and seems pretty close I recon...

    I would say the Johnsom 150 I had was close to the same consumption. It sure loved the fuel at WOT

    I know on my 40hp mariner that the oils consumption is hard to notice on just a trip or two on the weekend but is more noticeable over probably 5-10 outings. Like DSJ said that would only be roughly 13 ounces of oil it used with 5 gallons of gas. I pulled the float and magnet out of my tank and epoxied them back together about 4 years ago and haven't had a problem with it since. It is a little challenging to do but I pulled the tank off of the motor so I could move it around to see down in there. A long pair of hemostats and some patience and you can get the float and magnet out through the fill opening. Getting it back in is also challenging but again can be done. If you try to tackle it and have any questions don't hesitate to ask I will try to help in any way I can.

    Here's a video of the oil tank magnet fix, if you are so inclined.
    Well explained as to what happens. The key obviously is to get the items very clean and well attached!

    50 to 1 is not much oil use

    There was someone in the factory putting those floats in those tanks all day long 5 days a week.
    Kind of like putting new fuel hose in a weedeater or chainsaw tank. Lots of fun

    A few years ago, I started following a LS1 Forum where a group of guys started experimenting with fuel additives in high performance LS1 engines, and the fuel additive that impressed them the most was TCW3 two stroke oil at a rate of one ounce of TCW3 two stroke oil to five gallons of gas. That is a 640 to 1 mixture. TCW3 is ashless, smokeless, helps remove water from the fuel, and provides upper cylinder lubricant. And that small amount will not hurt a catalytic converter. I use that mix today in my small engines, including my boat fuel. In my opinion, especially with the older two strokes, that bit of TCW3 two stroke oil added to the fuel tank has NO adverse effect, and actually the TCW3 helps keep the fuel system clean. Note - this is in addition to the oil injection we have been discussing.
    Not to change the subject, but while on the subject of oil/fuel ratios, I just thought I would toss that out there...

    Sounds a lot like seafoam. Running a little in the fuel will certainly quiet down injector noise in my truck engines

    I remember years ago when Marvel Mystery Oil was the ticket, and I still like Seafoam in my fuel from time to time.
    For anyone interested, here's some information on TCW3 Certification, along with some of the hoops the oil must jump thru to earn the coveted TCW3 designation. It is NOT just like the old 2 stroke oil of years ago. Also, not really a whole lot of difference between the different makes, as long as it has the TCW3 designation, I just happen to use Penzoil Conventional Two Stroke TCW3 Oil, that can be found easily at Walmart and many other places for around $17 per gallon.
