I would have thought that would be cast aluminum and could be welded,
Well, thick headed me went and did it.... But how bad did I mess up is my question. I had my little 18 hourse in the tank and ran it. Then decided to take it and put it back in the shop. Only thing is, Thick headed me decided I didn't need no help. Well, I wound up dropping the motor on the hood, upside down, and when it fell over the fin smacked the saw horse it had been clamped to. Did'nt damage the hood, ut broke a chunk of the fin off. (See pic's). My question is...1. Can it be ran as is, or 2. Fix it...now that's pot metal, and I don't think it can be welded, so that would mean a lower case, or if I'm lucky finding a good housing and transfer the parts. But just finding a lower end will be fun, as it's 61 yrs old...Any help, Idea's, leads on good suppliers. The motor is a 61 Evinrude 18 hp Fastwin. T.I.A. Eric

I am with G. I would believe it is cast aluminum. Most any well shop should be able to weld it back up will very little trouble.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
When I was in the machine shop we welded automation transmission cases, chainsaw and weed eater motor blocks, and old aluminum shrimp boats. And my favorite aluminum garbage trailers in August. So if there is a garbage trailer waiting to be welded they may fight over your outboard
Well this happened today, Sunday, and I figured shops would be closed, so I'll see about tomorrow calling around. Maybe it can be welded. Better than trying to find a lower unit or Lower unit case for sure. Probably cheaper...

Last resort some JB Weld or Marinetech should work.

If you do the JB Weld, be sure it is "JB Marine Weld", the 2 part putty and NOT the fast cure stuff. Sand or wire wheel it well both sides before you stick it. Make a little plastic spatula to spread and smooth before it dries for best results. It is their strongest product at over 5,ooo psi. It fixed my cavitation plate on my 115 Mercury and is holding up excellent, but mine was not a third of what you have there...
