    What is VRO? Oil injection?
Mine is a 1998 115hp Johnson. I like to think my little alarm beeper will alert me if (when) there is a failure but I don't trust that much either...

The oil injection systems by late 90's are said to be pretty reliable.
To me its worse to foul my plugs all the time and mess with mixing than to trust, hope, and wish.

We had a brand new 1992 70hp Evinrude. When new you double oil...premix in the tank and run the injection pump.
We burned up the motor on the first tank without the premixed oil. Turns out the injector never worked and the alarm also did not work..... warranty fixed it twice though the alarm worked the second time. We burned it up a 3rd time because the injection system failed... You can't limp home.

If its not broke, don't fix it. There are thousands of those old VROs out there still chugging along just fine.
