I'm in that boat too. I'm leaning toward the Ulterra because I fish alone and believe the auto deploy/trim would help in unloading and loading the boat and like what I read about Spot Lock.

Trying to decid between getting an Minn Kota Ulterra or Ultrex. I have Humminbird electronics so which ever I choose will have iPilot Link. My biggest concern with the U,terra is the longevity of the auto deploy/trim.

I'm three days into my ulterra and it fits my needs perfect. The auto stow and deploy is amazing. I can't vouch for the longtivity but I'm all in on the features.
I'm going with an Ultrex but can't decide between a 24v vs. 36v. The boat is an 18ft fiberglass bass boat so I'm sure the 24v would be plenty of power and torque. My question is time on the water. Does the 36v system get you a significant amount of more time to fish? Is it worth the extra cost and weight of another battery in back? Thanks
Depends on your needs, do you really like a cable drive foot control???? I do not and giving it up to have the auto deply and stow to me is priceless!!!! Fished with a couple guys who have the Ultrex, great motor but I find the footpedal to be in the way for what I do, I never have even hooked up the footpedal on my Ulterra. Launching by yourself is awesome with the Ulterra and I have gotten good enough with it to do like the guy in the commercial, just a better fit for me. Both are great motors, don't think you can go wrong either way.

What's your thought on 24v vs. 36v? I'm going to use this mostly for crappie fishing trolling around slowly but also bass fishing in smaller lakes and waterway. Doubt I'd get out in the middle of Pickwick or any really heavy current. I just want to pick what's going to let me stay out as long as I want without running the batteries down too quickly. That said, I want to start out right and not regret anything 6 months from now
Heres the boat scale scale chart for the ulterra
