Can I ask where you bought your Yamaha I live in North Alabama myself and I need to buy a new 20 or 25 hp. I have it narrowed down to a Mercury 20 or Yamaha 25 and I want a long shaft so I can have power trim and tilt and I need the longer tiller handle that they both come with and I'm tying to keep the motor weight under a 150 lbs. and will be putting this on a new 1448 Grizzly so I'll take any help you can offer .

Call and get a quote from Progressive, too.
Nobody I called could even get close to their rates for my boat.
I have had everything else covered by State Farm for years, but it was no comparison on the boat rate by a mile!

The best outboard mechanic that I have ever known was a small engine mechanic for the Navy. After he retired he opened a small engine repair shop and would only work on your problem if he liked you.
He could repair any make of outboard but the only make of outboard that I ever knew him to own was a Tohatsu. He swore that they were the most reliable outboard engine ever made. I have never owned one but I really had a lot of confidence in him.

I got mine at Fredericks Marine in Decatur. I did get a short shaft though so it's not apples to apples on the Yamaha 25 long shaft. I may be wrong, but I believe if you want trim, you have to order a remote version, which they then install a big multifunction tiller on (larger than the factory tiller on the non trim models). For this reason I think it drives the cost way up because from the factory those tillers are $$$ and then you pay extra for the trim obviously and I think the remote models (even without trim) are slightly more expensive than the equivalent tiller versions. I don't know any of this for certain so definitely check with them before taking my word on it. However, if it is true, I'd get the non trim unit and pair it with an aftermarket trim unit like CMC or Bobs....I have a Panther trim unit which I personally don't like although it functions ok.

If you have any questions, pm me. I don't mind posting what I paid right here but I don't have that info on hand at this moment.

Will that motor trim down while at wide open throttle? Was told it wasn't powerful enough to and was more a tilt assist unit.

That's who I called and yes the price was going to be 6000.00 so that ruled Yamaha out for me I went to Midway Marine and picked up a 2021 Mercury 20 HP Long shaft electric start and power trim for 3300 out the door and installed plus everywhere else I called I was going to have to wait 3 or 4 months but thanks for the reply.

That's crazy that it was that high. IMO Yamaha should have just built the trim switch into the handle of all of the 25's that way they could just install the larger transom bracket with trim on those models....that way they could charge an extra $7-800 for the trim features vs all of the other unnecessary stuff.

I agree but I guess that's how they make there money the motor itself was going to be right at almost 5 thousand the big tiller was another 800 and then you had to buy a kit to hook it up for 250 I know Yamaha is a good motor but that was more than I wanted to pay.
