You'll need a breaker close to the battery. That can serve as your power disconnect.
So I ordered a bow mount trolling motor which I've never had. My boat is pretty basic and doesn't have a receptacle upfront to plug a trolling motor into. I plan on getting a 6-gauge set of jumper cables and using that wire to run back to my battery. Is there a way I can connect the 6-gauge wire to the lead wires from the trolling motor and be able to disconnect it if I need to without getting a receptacle?

Here is one way to connect two dissimilar size wires. You can find right size at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Here is another way, get 2 of these that way you can disconnect them.

They also make what is called a step down butt connector. Don't know if they have the size you need.

I had issues with my standard trolling motor plug burning on the front I replaced it with a 220 twist lock type plug used on stoves etc going on 14 years and not one problem.
