I changed water pump on 2014 Yamaha 115 and put it all back to gather. Went down to river, motor started and strong pee stream. Went to shift into reverse and no reverse. Shifted into forward and no forward. Did I forget to do something when I put it back together? Hopefully not a hard fix...
Yep, been there done that on a 250.Probably just didn't get the shift shaft lined up. Looks like it has a splined shift shaft
Made for an embarrassing launch at a crowded ramp.LOl
Get a second guy and slowly slide LU down. Will need about 3" and you can reach in on port side and align the shafts.
Yeah, embarrassing....problem was I had wife in boat and launched it. She started it up and I went to park the truck. She kept saying it won't go...Trolling motor was to heavy for her to deploy but a nice gentleman went and pulled her to the dock, went and got the truck and loaded by hand.....
Hoping it is an easy fix. So, did i put it back together and just missed aligning it when I put it back together?

A helper to support it really helps when you align the rods since you don't have to drop it all the way.
Once you put it back together, install 1 bolt to hold it and and check by shifting and the prop won't spin freely.
That is the part I skipped being in a hurry. LOL
Just finished taking lower unit off. Did not have extra pair of hands so I used a winch strap to support the lower unit to align the shift shaft to the piece it fits into. Winched it back up flush, put it in forward and prop did not turn. Put in reverse and prop did not turn. Assume I got it fixed and will find out Monday. Not gonna even go down to boat launch this weekend. It is wild and crowded...Thanks for all the help, I learned a lot...
