    Default HB788 CI

Okay - I must confess that I caused the issue. I worked a deal for a 24 volt trolling motor, and so I hooked up the trolling motor, and away I went. When I went to turn on my HB788 CI, guess what also was hooked up to the trolling motor? Well, I didn't install the HB this way, so I can't take all the blame for this.

So, the HB saw 24 volts across the input. Now, when I try to turn it on (yes, now 12 volts), the screen will have a slight flicker (very faint), but will not turn on. I don't see any in-line fuses (probably would not have helped cause those are typically current), or any other type of over voltage protection.

I'm guessing she is toast, but thought I would ask here before discarding. Anyone have any possible solutions? I have a ton of way points saved on this unit. I have an electronic background, and have already opened it, but don't see anything obvious.

    Thanks!!

I would call HB and ask them what they think. If it is toast they might be able to recover your waypoints if you send it in. They might be able to repair it if the price point for repairs is reasonable compared to a new unit.

Thanks Guys - first thing I tried was to talk to HB. After giving my name, address, phone #, etc., they politely indicated that is an older unit and not supported by technical support. Looks like father's day present may be a few months early!!
